Some of the best fly fishing in Oregon takes place right here in the southern Willamette Valley, within an hour of Eugene and Springfield. The blue ribbon McKenzie and a large portion of the mainstem Willamette offer over 30 miles of designated catch-and-release trout water, along with an endless array of steelhead haunts ideally suited to fly fishing.

These big rivers are a challenge to access on foot. From a fully equipped drift boat you get the chance to sight-fish to rising trout and swing flies for summer steelhead — often in the same day. Target native Redside rainbow and cutthroat, or enjoy a midsummer streamside lunch of hatchery trout.

Prolific hatches through a long season make for excellent surface and near-surface fishing. We plan your trip to be on the water at the best time of day for the bite. These waters are truly in our backyard, and we’ll share decades of hard-won local knowledge with you.

The southern Willamette Valley is home to some exciting steelheading. When river conditions are favorable, large wild winter steelhead and chrome-bright hatchery summer steelhead are quite susceptible to fly presentations from late February into November.

The McKenzie, Willamette and Santiam systems offer endless opportunities to swing flies through classic runs, tailouts and pocket water. A typical day mixes wade fishing with fishing from a fully equipped drift boat piloted by one of our guides.

Sea-run cutthroat and coho salmon call these waters home too.

The Dudes grew up fishing the rivers, streams, lakes and estuaries of Oregon’s Coast Range. Over many years we have learned that being in the right place at the right time is critical, so we work within your schedule to plan an outing with a high probability of success.

The world-famous Deschutes is legendary for its spectacular desert canyon setting and its incredible rainbow trout fishery. Anglers travel from around the globe to this Central Oregon mecca for multi-day camping adventures through the breathtaking, sage-scented canyon.

We access a 30+ mile remote roadless reach of the river by drift boat, camping in comfort and style at intervals along the way. A dedicated camp professional carries all the non-fishing gear and sets up camp while the guides and anglers float and fish through the day.

The focus of our Deschutes season is the annual Salmonfly Hatch, which typically peaks in late May — big-bug dry fly fishing at its best, with explosive strikes from big trout in fast water up under the trees. Note that by law anglers must leave the boat to fish, so waders and a reasonable degree of fitness are required; guides match the wading difficulty to each guest.

The taimen is the world’s largest salmonid — a voracious predator with a particular weakness for a twitched mouse pattern. The surface strike of one of these old-world monsters is worth the price of the trip on its own.

They average around 10 lbs and 30 inches, but run anywhere from 15 inches to over five feet. Taimen once thrived throughout Eurasia; overfishing and pollution have decimated most of those populations. They remain in healthy numbers in northern Mongolia, where the remote rivers are still relatively untouched.

Matt guided 18 seasons for giant taimen in Outer Mongolia, and went back in the fall of 2025 for a one-week cameo after an eleven-year hiatus — a sweet and emotional tour, and another trip of a lifetime.

The Rio Agua Boa runs clear through the equatorial rainforest of northern Brazil, and that changes everything. Unlike the black-water rivers where blind-casting big lures is the norm, here it is 100% fly fishing, with sight-fishing opportunities all day long.

Getting there means Manaus, then a two-hour flight north in a Cessna Caravan — the transition from a city of two million to untracked jungle is abrupt. When the water drops low and clear for the dry season, it makes for day after day of world-class sight fishing for trophy peacock bass, alongside arapaima, traíra and payara.
