Welcome to Two Dudes Fly Fishing!
Welcome to Two Dudes Fly Fishing, the joint venture of longtime Oregon fly fishing guides, Matt Ramsey and Scott Nelson. We specialize in trips that take you off the beaten path of venues and techniques. As patient instructors in all aspects of fly fishing, we look forward to sharing our knowledge with you.
We have fished and guided all over the world. Alaska, B.C., New Zealand, Australia, the Amazon Rainforest, Mongolia, the Caribbean, and beyond, the Dudes have been there. But there's a reason we have chosen to make our homes and raise our families in Western Oregon. We have grown up fishing and exploring the wilds of this region and believe that nowhere else in the United States offers the variety of angling opportunities available here. Oregon fly anglers truly enjoy a year-round fishing season.
Matt and Scott are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience on the river. We are not a "numbers-oriented" guide service, recognizing that there's more to a memorable day on the water than simply catching lots of fish. The Dudes strive to provide a comfortable, relaxed, and fulfilling day away from the noise and commotion of the daily world.
Please join us, and let us show you why we love fly fishing.

McKenzie and Willamette River Guided Fly Fishing Trips
Some of the best fly fishing in Oregon takes place here in the southern Willamette Valley, within one hour of Eugene and Springfield. The blue ribbon McKenzie River and a large portion of the mainstem Willamette River offer over 30 miles of designated catch-and-release trout water as well as an endless array of steelhead haunts which are ideally suited to fly fishing. These waters are truly in our backyard, and we will share our decades of hard-won local knowledge with you.
These large rivers are a challenge to access on foot. The Dudes offer you the unique opportunity to sight-fish to rising trout and swing flies for summer steelhead (often in the same day) from a fully equipped drift boat piloted by an experienced guide.
Whether you would like to target native "Redside" rainbow and cutthroat trout, or enjoy a midsummer streamside lunch of hatchery trout, the McKenzie River offers a dynamic and multifaceted experience. Prolific hatches throughout the long season provide great opportunities for excellent surface and near-surface fishing. We will plan your trip to be on the water at the best time of day for the bite.
If fly rod summer steelhead are your goal, we offer trips specifically targeting these large powerful migratory fish. The Dudes have been fly fishing our local waters for steelhead for over 30 years. Our rivers are easy to wade, and feature an impressive amount of ideal water for traditional tight-line steelhead fly fishing techniques. Perfect in scale and pace for both single- and two-handed fly rod presentations, our local waters are also one of the best destinations in the Western US to fish waking surface flies for explosive strikes from these aggressive fish. A typical day will feature a mix of wading as well as fishing from the boat to maximize your coverage and chances of success.
Your trip can be customized to target trout, steelhead, or both over the course of one or multiple days. We look forward to showing you around on our home waters.
This is one of Oregon's finest fly fishing trips!

Two Dudes Fly Fishing operates under a special use permit with the Willamette National Forest and is an equal opportunity outdoor recreation service provider.

Oregon Coast Fly Fishing Trips
When conditions are favorable, the Oregon Coast is one of the world's top fly fishing destinations for chrome bright, ocean-fresh chinook salmon and hard fighting winter steelhead. Whether you hope to test your backing against the unstoppable power of a tidewater king, or swing a spey rod for winter chrome thigh-deep in a drizzly Pacific rainforest river valley, the fisheries of the Western Oregon Coast offer the opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime.
The Two Dudes have grown up fishing the rivers, streams, lakes, and estuaries of Oregon's Coast Range Mountains. In addition to Chinook Salmon and Winter Steelhead, Sea-Run Cutthroat and Coho Salmon also call these waters home. Over the course of our many years of fishing these waters we have learned that being in the right place at the right time is critical. We endeavor to work within your schedule to plan an outing with a high probability of success.
If the fish of a lifetime is calling your name, join Two Dudes Fly Fishing to test your mettle against Oregon's ultimate fly rod challenge!

Deschutes River Guided Fly Fishing Trips
The world-famous Deschutes River is legendary for its spectacular desert canyon setting and for its incredible rainbow trout fishery. Anglers from around the globe travel to this Central Oregon fly fishing mecca to immerse themselves in multi-day camping adventures through the breathtakingly beautiful sage-scented canyon. We access a 30+ mile remote roadless reach of the river via drift boats, camping in comfort and style at intervals along the way. A dedicated camp professional carries all non-fishing gear and sets up camp as the guides and anglers float and fish through the day.
The focus of our Deschutes season is the annual Salmonfly Hatch which typically peaks in late May. This is big-bug dry fly fishing at its best. Explosive strikes from big trout in fast water up under the trees have thrilled generations of anglers. It's no wonder fly fishers flock to the river for this event every year!
This fishery is unique in that by law, anglers must disembark from the boats in order to fish. So waders and a reasonable degree of physical fitness are required. Guides endeavor to match the degree of fishing and wading difficulty to the comfort and ability of each guest.
Deschutes River multi-day camping adventures are the perfect getaway for parties of four or more anglers. Each guide carries 1-2 anglers in a boat, and groups of any size can be accomodated.
Two Dudes Fly Fishing partners with the most experienced and professional outfitters on the Deschutes to provide an unrivalled fishing and camping experience. Contact us anytime to learn more about this amazing trip, and join us for this Oregon fly fishing trip of a lifetime!

Oregon Tenkara Fishing
Over the last several years, Tenkara angling has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts. Tenkara is an ancient Japanese form of angling utilizing a long limber rod and a fixed, single length of line to present flies of all kinds. Tenkara in Japanese means "From the Sky/Heaven" and describes the high-rod-angle approach that makes this technique so versatile and effective. The simplicity and challenge of Tenkara appeals to anglers of all skill levels.
Beginning fly anglers, kids especially, can be daunted by modern rod and reel fly fishing equipment and technique. Tenkara offers a stripped-down and intuitive approach focussed on the mechanics of casting and fly control. Anglers with more advanced skills appreciate the novelty and challenge of a technique founded in subtlety and nuance. While Tenkara is most perfect for smaller fish, anyone who has hooked into a large trout with Tenkara can attest to the excitement (and near-panic) that can ensue.
Here in the Southern Willamette Valley, we are fortunate to enjoy an almost perfect Tenkara Fishery: the world-famous McKenzie River. With it's nearly year-round fishery and plentiful trout, anglers can enjoy Tenkara throughout the season. Whether fishing from a drift boat or wading riffles and bouldery runs, Tenkara opportunities abound on the McKenzie.
Two Dudes Fly Fishing is your Oregon Tenkara Fly Fishing Guide Service. Whether you are simply curious about Tenkara or you're a confirmed Tenkara addict, Scott and Matt always have a rod or two at the ready on any day on the river. And we are happy to arrange dedicated Oregon Tenkara Adventures for the truly obsessed or for those anglers simply in search of a refreshing new (old) angle of approach.

Rates and Policies
Two Dudes Fly Fishing offers Full-day and Half-day guided fly fishing trips. Rates are calculated on a per-boat basis, and each boat can accommodate 1-2 anglers. Our rates for guided fly fishing vary by season and by fishery and are consistent with those offered by our experienced peers in the local guiding community. We also offer seasonal Special Rate Trips at various times of the year. These specials and their parameters are posted on our Fishing Report page. Please contact us anytime for specific rates for your trip.
We advise you to beware of any guide service that offers trips at a substantially lower rate than the norm. Established and reputable local outfitters will have minimal difference in rates. It isn't just about whether a guide can put you on fish. Remember: there is considerable risk involved in navigating fast moving rivers by drift boat, and there is no substitute for experience when it comes to safety.
Cancellation Policy
Two Dudes Fly Fishing asks that you send a deposit of $100 per angler to hold any date on our calendar for a fly fishing trip. This deposit is fully refundable up to two weeks prior to your trip for cancellation for any reason. For cancellation within two weeks of your trip, we will keep your deposit. For cancellation within 48 hours of the trip, full payment is required. We make exceptions to this policy for medical hardship at any time. Please contact us with any questions about this policy.
Please be aware that late summer and early fall are wildfire season in western Oregon. In the increasingly likely case of wildfire smoke, we reserve the right to cancel any trip anytime if the AQI forecast is Unhealthy (150 ppm or above). In the event of cancellation due to unhealthy air, we will reschedule or cancel and refund any deposits.
